“If I build houses and I’m a builder, do I only build houses for those who believe in God?… I’m just an artist who makes music for everybody”
Bad things happen. This is a fact of life. Some people wallow in self-pity, whereas others stand up and make something of the pain they have felt.
NF is the latter. That is incredibly clear.
His latest release, ‘Why’, questions the thoughts inside his head as he struggles with the human conundrum of never being satisfied. “I just made a couple mil’, still not impressed.” Anger at his own mind radiates from his words until you can almost feel the aggravation and confusion with him.
NF is known for putting his whole self into his lyrics. If you want to know his backstory, listen to his music. His mind is like a book and the lyrics point to the paragraphs he wants you to read. (‘How Could You Leave Us’ being a personal favourite of mine.)
While NF willingly talks about his religion and even involves Christianity in a few of his lyrics, he refuses to be termed a ‘Christian Rapper’. “If I build houses and I’m a builder, do I only build houses for those who believe in God?… I’m just an artist who makes music for everybody.”
Nathan Feuerstein is brave enough to turn his pain into art, and talented enough not to use it as a crutch.
