WARMDUSCHER: ‘BIG WILMA’ (THE LEAF LABEL)

Described as “the offspring of a match made in hell between Fat White Family and Paranoid London”. ‘Big Wilma’ is the first track to be taken from the forthcoming Whale City album due out on 1st June.

TY SEGALL: ‘WHEN MOMMY KILLS YOU’ (DRAG CITY)

I included the cover of ‘Every 1’s A Winner’ in January’s blog but ‘When Mommy Kills You’ has been growing on me and is the stand-out track of the album, despite tough competition. Scheduled to play the UK in June, with a Marc Riley session confirmed.

BRUNSWICK: ‘KNOW NO BETTER’ (BRUNSWICK)

One of only two songs available by this new artist that is being managed out of the Red Light Management stable. An incredible track that hints at what’s to come in the near future. Live dates, including Reading and Leeds Festivals have just been announced.

GOAT GIRL: ‘THE MAN’ (ROUGH TRADE)

I’ve been listening to Goat Girl for over a year now and have never been a huge fan, but this track has really grown on me over these past few weeks. It reminds me of Django Django’s ‘Life’s A Beach’. Their ability as musicians and performers has really come on since 2016 and the debut self-titled album is released on 6th April.

ONCE AND FUTURE BAND: ‘THE OLD BRAIN’ (CASTLE FACE)

Beautiful and haunting track that has been hammered by Marc Riley these past few months. Their debut E.P. from 2014 has recently been re-released on Castle Face which features this track. They were recently in the UK where they played some headline shows, the Castle Mania shows, as well as recording a session for Marc Riley.

ERLAND COOPER: ‘MAALIE’ (PHASES)

Recently discovered via a live session on Marc Riley’s show, this track (and ‘Solan Goose’ album) is simply beautiful. Its soundtrack feel ensures you have to listen to the album from start to finish to fully benefit it.

SAM EVIAN ‘HEALTH MACHINE’ (SADDLE CREEK)

Taken from his second album You, Forever album due out on 1st June. I’ve only heard this track three or four times but it’s made a great impact. He’s been compared to John Lennon but for me there’s a lot of Elliot Smith in here too. Sam will be playing some headline shows in the UK in May as well as with Unknown Mortal Orchestra at the Albert Hall in Manchester.

LONELADY: ‘LITTLE FUGUE’ (WARP)

We did a few shows with LoneLady in 2015 and I was really impressed with her songs and her setup. This is a new track which has been dropped at radio with little indication of what there is to follow. One can only hope.

FORGOTTEN GEM

HOLY FUCK: ‘LOVELY ALLEN’ (YOUNG TURKS)

I’d forgotten all about this record until a couple of weeks ago when I heard it on the radio. Just a wonderful song that must never be forgotten again. Taken from their LP album released in 2007.
